It's a Wonderful World!
Really it is. I can not think of a better time to be living, what with the tremendous opportunities that abound in all parts of the world along with incredibly high stress levels in the first world and in the third world of just surviving on the daily level, as is usual. A really good world with good people and many stressed out enough to be missing out on the good life we all want and should deserve.
What we often forget, or never really learned, is that life and indeed the entire Universe is bound by cycles of change some extremely long and others very short and getting shorter still.
As humans we tend to fix the world into a constant non-changing state. We want that idyllic period never to go away. Sorry not possible no matter how hard we try.
It is easy to see the short cycles like day, night or the seasons even have stretching our thoughts to a human life proceeding from birth to death. Barely. What is difficult for us to recognize that these changes, this evolution, is taking place all around us, in all our institutions, social structures, organizations, corporations, societal thrusts, attitudes, economics. The only constant is this very change or evolution. Because of this, we tend to rail against the world, lashing out here, there and everywhere hoping our cries will somehow right the wrongs, dry the tears and correct seeming injustices. Everything going on in happens for a reason. It is really a situation of "can't see the forest because the trees are in the way".
How do we start understanding? Scientists generally believe that there are basic truths or principles with which everything from grains of sands, corporations and spinning galaxies must obey. I believe that they are correct on this interpretation. One you all know is the 'action encourages an equal but opposite reaction'. Sadly that one we most often forget in politics or meeting total strangers. There are only about a half dozen laws that really govern everything that is going on around us. Our Universe and the changes within it can essentially be understood on the basis of these Laws or Principles. Plus a better understanding of why we are what we are. We always see ourselves with rose coloured glasses, wouldn't you agree?
I have been very fortunate to have been involved in the study of science, primarily physics, taught it to high school students and had a very enjoyable time of dealing with students, teachers, parents and society and politics on the side. I have learned that people look at the world in a particular way that reduces their chances of resolving those issues important to them. In a highly stressed world, for some at least, not a particularly good strategy for happiness. This is the reason why I think that understanding those long and short cycles in our world and those basic principles provide a non-threatening and non-judgemental way of looking at what seems to be a very chaotic and painful world around us.
If you have patience with me maybe I will impart, in my clumsy way, my understanding of what is going on around this stressed out world of ours.
